Bacteria, specifically Total Coliform and E. Coli are analyzed for in well water to indicate the condition of the well and it's potability. Coliform Bacteria are found everywhere in nature, but are not commonly found in well waters, unless introduced to the aquifer from the surface. Since water in the water table or aquifer is usually uncontaminated with Coliforms, a test will show if Coliforms are Present or Absent. Coliforms are not usually pathogenic but are used as an indicator of the water quality. If Total Coliforms are found, this means that the well has presently or had at some time or another, a violation of its natural disinfected state. The presumption is that if Total Coliforms are found, there is a some pathway into the well and that pathway could introduce harmful elements. If Total Coliforms are found, then another test is done to see if E. Coli are present. If E. Coli are found then the water is considered unsafe to drink and contaminated. Since E. Coli are found in the intestines of warm blooded animals (mammals) their presence means there is sewage in the well water and all kinds of nasty things could be in the water that will make you sick. Every well in Oregon must be tested according to Oregon State law when a property transfer (sale) occurs and the results must be sent to the State as well as the buyer. Mortgage companies often use this test to determine if the property has a potable water source and therefore a good investment. Aqua-Metrics specializes in fixing contaminated wells and has innovated various methods that are very successful. Office: 541-484-9776 | ||
